Abstract
This article gives a reassesment of the social and political interpretations of La Celestina. Taking account of the important work done after the book on this subject by José Antonio Maravall, it gives a full status quaestionis of the positions and scholars that have argued that La Celestina has deep ideological implications. The article compares some of the political issues of its time with its formulation in Rojas' work, and concludes that there are no direct political considerations in them, but a treatment closely linked with their uses in the universities, merely theoretical. Rojas seems to have treated this matter just for their literary effects, and if it's possible to find political readings they are not in the literal meaning, but in the construction of the narrative.
